The theme of income inequality was definitely one of the foundational issues that I'm going to try to discuss in this essay. With the wealth and status gap being a constant trend within the black community, income inequality is certainly one of the most pressing issues that needs to be addressed.Perhaps the most difficult part of economic inequality in the black community is the fact that it's at such a level right now where we have a decent bit of inequality but we are also experiencing a pretty good amount of equality as well, even if the current economic situation is showing it's ugly face. With this being the case, one has to ask why income inequality continues to exist so starkly in the black community despite our not-so-gentle rise in wealth over the past decade or so.It's safe to say that for most of us, inequality can never really be solved simply because when you don't have enough money, the likelihood of ever really getting your fair share of socioeconomic status is pretty much non-existent. But the question of why income inequality exists is a complex one and cannot truly be answered with just one essay topic.In the early years of the black power movement, the issue of inequality between the classes was one of the most common topics for discussion. It was a social conversation topic that was on the minds of many of the members of the black power movement.Some of the causes of the socioeconomic status in the black community is the ongoing oppression of the black community. We as a society have a natural inclination to try to subjugate the weaker class and breed a status hierarchy in a way that those lower on the pecking order can still play some role in society. And while I personally think that if society had a li ttle more respect for itself and for its members, these issues wouldn't be quite as prevalent in the black community, the issues are still there.Another contributing factor is the lack of wealth and economic development within the black community as a whole and a drop in social status that we've experienced as a result of that economic decline. It's easy to see how a lot of the ideas regarding socioeconomic status in the black community would come from things like the Black Power movement, which was based on the notion that if you put your back into it, you could overcome the odds and achieve economic development and a better lifestyle.Lastly, there is the issue of generational status. There has been so much upheaval within the black community that it might seem that the recent generation of black children, who haven't grown up with as much socioeconomic status as their elders, are going to inherit the same issues that their parents and grandparents grew up with.The kind of ideals a nd ideas that each of us holds and the kind of grievances that we hold have a great deal to do with the way we approach things and as a result the way we perceive the world around us, and these notions and ideas will be in each of our descendants' voices and in our hearts. No matter what ideas you hold or how firmly you believe in what you believe, everyone has a voice in the black community and with that said, we should all take the time to determine what our ideas are, and then hopefully that voice will cause us to create the kind of society that we want to live in.
